I don't know who makes a raid 5 cards with more than 4 ports. I could use the software raid on my Gigabyte motherboard. It has 6 ports. I want to use raid 5 for the parity feature in case of a drive failure, but not have pure mirroring. That's too expensive. What would you recommend? Is it possible to span an array over more than one controller. Upgrading the driver of the AMD AHCI Compatible RAID controller to the recommended 3.2.1540.92 version helps in such situations. Alternative solution In the worst case, you may try to install the 'Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller' driver. The problem is, even when i correctly load my RAID drivers provided by the mb maker, winxp install doesn't detect the disks. If I set the SATA mode to AHCI in the BIOS winxp can detect them but. Mirr oring is 100% duplication of the data on two drives (RAID 1). Parity is used to calculate the data in two drives and store the results on a third drive (RAID 5). After a failed drive is replaced, the RAID controller automatically rebuilds the lost data from the other two drives.

It is highly recommended to always use the most recent driver version available.
Try to set a system restore point before installing a device driver. This will help if you installed an incorrect or mismatched driver.
Problems can arise when your hardware device is too old or not supported any longer.
