Biography
The legendary rock band Korn was formed in California in early nineties. Alongside with Deftones and Limp Bizkit they created a new musical style by mixing the elements of grunge, metal and other different styles. Initially the band was named Corn, but later the musicians came to an idea to spell it in the way a child would spell it. Thus, well-known by everyone Korn was established.
Their first demo-album Neidermeyer's Mind was issued in 1993 and later all the songs from that record were included into the following studio albums. The quantity of Neidermeyer's Mind was rather small, and nowadays it is quite difficult to find this demo-album. The band’s debut long play titled Korn was released in 1994. Korn presented absolutely revolutionary sound, including elements of metal, grunge and hip-hop. Later that style was named nu metal and the band’s debut record, in its turn, was titled the very first nu metal album. Thereby Korn managed to attract a lot of attention in no time. Three years after the release of Korn the composition Shoots and Ladders was nominated for Grammy for Best Metal Performance. The band’s second studio work Life Is Peachy was released in 1996. Korn kept on creating music in the same style; however songs Porno Creep and Swallow had quite strong funk influence. Life Is Peachy was as good as the first album and pretty soon it was certified double Platinum. Korn were gaining popularity and in 1997 they headlined at Lollapalooza festival with the famous Tool.
Life Is Peachy was followed by the record Follow the Leader (1998). Korn collaborated with Ice Cube, Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit and other musicians while creating that album. Composition Earache My Eye was recorded with an actor Cheech Marin, who is well known from the movies Up in Smoke. Follow the Leader turned out to be really successful and it debuted at number one in Billboard chart. That album included songs Got the Life and Freak on a Leash, which are considered to be among the most recognizable Korn’s songs. In 1999 the band released the next album titled Issues. The same year Korn appeared in one of South Park episodes, presenting the very first single from Issues - Falling Away from Me. The record Untouchables (2002) was well received by the fans who enjoyed its aggressive sound. Moreover, all the heavy music lovers got such hits as Alone I Break and Here to Stay. In 2003 Korn won the Grammy award for Here to Stay in nomination Best Metal Performance.
The sixth studio work Take a Look in the Mirror was released in 2003. This time the musicians decided to go back to the original aggressive sound of their first records. Also Korn recorded the song Alive, the band’s very first composition, which was presented only in demo-album Neidermeyer's Mind. See You on the Other Side (2005) was the first record created without Brian Welch who left the band after thirteen years of collaboration. The musicians were looking for a new and fresh sound and later Davis noted that See You on the Other Side turned out to be one of their most experimental works. The changes in the line-up were not completed: in 2007 Korn released the album Untitled, which had been created without the drummer David Silveria. The band invited Terry Bozzio and Brooks Wackerman to record the drums. It is worth mentioning that drums for several compositions were recorded by the frontman Jonathan Davis.
In 2010 Korn presented the new album Korn III: Remember Who You Are. The legendary rockers again managed to create an incredible atmosphere and the very strong album. Powerful guitar sound and aggressive bass-guitar alongside with Davis’ vocals create Korn’s original sound which cannot be mixed up with anyone else’s. There is no doubt that this long awaited album will be enjoyed by the band’s old fans and by those who are not familiar yet with the creativity of one of the nu metal founders.
